May is Disability Awareness Month!

Roughly 3 in 10 Americans will suffer a disability lasting 90 days or longer before they reach age 65.1
Sometimes the world can feel like a risky place – every day the TV and Internet bombard us with reports of crime, disaster and mishap. But what about the effect of an illness or injury? You may not think that an illness or injury is something to plan for, but it may keep you from working and as such it could be considered a disability. What are the chances that you or someone you care about may become disabled?

Learn more about disability occurrence, causes, and effects.

Your most valuable asset isn’t your home, your car or even your retirement savings — it’s your ability to earn an income. A disability lasting three months or longer will strike roughly 3 in 10 workers.2 Many American families live paycheck to paycheck, and the majority couldn’t afford to go one month, let alone 2 or 3 years, without the support of regular income.3 The ability to earn an income is something to be valued and protected.

Disability Happens and Protect Yourself flyers are available in Spanish as well.
